Summer Dodge Ball Days for Troops Overseas

I am Brendan Moriarty. I am a black belt at St. Matthews Martial Arts. All of my siblings–brother, sister, and brother in law–are in the army right now. They are all fantastic people, and have inspired me in ways that I could not imagine. I could not begin to tell you how instrumental my brother was in helping me prepare for my black belt test. This is why I have chosen to do a community service project for our troops stationed overseas. We are collecting certain items here and I will work through SupportOurTroops.org to send care packages to them.

Originally my plan was to collect specifically for my Brother’s unit. Unfortunately we ran into some logistical problems and I needed to make a new plan. In order to send care packages there is some very careful security in place and we weren’t able to get everything arranged before they rotated home. My brother encouraged me to stick with my plan and find another way to do something for other troops currently deployed. That is the short version of how I found SupportOurTroops.org

The list of items is very simple. It is focused on things that provide small comforts or conveniences in situations where there is not much in the way of comfort or convenience.

  • $25 gift cards from credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express)
    • These provide a means for soldiers to call home from wherever they happen to be.
  • Encouraging letters or hand-drawn pictures are always appreciated.
  • Food, non-perishable, not assorted (protein bars, beef jerky, gum, hard candies, cookies, crackers, nuts, granola bars, etc)
    • NO Chocolate or Peanuts (this is very important)
  • Tins and packets of coffee
  • Personal Hygiene Items: wet wipes, disposable razors (men and women), body wash, face wash, mouth wash, lotion, deodorant, Q-tips, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, etc (unscented whenever possible)
  • Sunscreen
  • Magazines
  • Posters and Calendars
  • Blank thumb drives and memory sticks

Thank you very much for your help.

Sincerely,

Brendan
